Fully vaccinated passengers (and most under 18s) returning to England from non-red list countries will be able to take lateral flow test instead of a PCR on Day 2 from 24th October 2021, just in time for half term.
Holidaymakers will be able to take a photo of their negative tests and the booking reference from the supplier as proof and send it back to show they are negative.
This comes as very welcome news, as Brits flock to chase the sun for a well-deserved half-term break.
This follows news that the Green and Amber lists have been slashed, leaving only a red list, which has also dropped to just 7 countries meaning the options for destinations have significantly increased.
Passengers will still need to book their lateral flow tests from an approved list that will be supplied by the government. Some airports will also be offering the option. These will be available to book from 22nd October 2021.
Anybody who has already purchased a PCR test to take after arrival does not need to purchase another.
Anyone who tests positive will need to isolate and take a PCR test to confirm.
For those who are unvaccinated, a PCR test is required on Day 2 and quarantine for 10 days at home.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: "We want to make going abroad easier and cheaper, whether you're travelling for work or visiting friends and family.
"Lateral flow tests will be available later this month for those returning from half-term holidays.
"This change to testing is only possible thanks to the incredible progress of our vaccination programme, which means we can safely open up travel as we learn to live with the virus." (Source: Sky News)
